STEP 01

Tell Sensei about your tank.

Pick saltwater or freshwater, the style (SPS, mixed, soft / LPS, FOWLR, planted, shrimp), size and age. Snap a photo if you have one. Sensei says hello in your voice — not boilerplate.

Log readings the way you actually test.

TankSensei is built by the team at PrintedReef — the reef-keeper-owned shop that makes 3D-printed reef gear. We run SPS-dominant reef tanks on Apex, Trident, and DOS, and every feature you see here came from a real frustration on our own tanks.

The app is the reef-keeping companion we wanted but couldn't find — so we built it. No data sales. No upsell loop disguised as advice. Just the calm, specific reef-tank operator we wish we'd had on our first build.

We ship every week and listen to every piece of feedback. The changelog is our receipts.

Common questions

Everything reefers ask before signing up.

Do I need a controller to use TankSensei?
No. Manual entry, photo reading for Hanna Checkers and test strips, ICP imports, the dose calculator and the Sensei Score all work without one. If you run a Neptune Apex, a PrintedReef display on your network reads it (probes, DOS dosing, outlets and feed cycles) and sends it to TankSensei. If you run a CoralVue HYDROS, connect your account and its probe readings arrive on their own.
Which ICP labs are supported?
Triton, ATI Labfish, Oceamo and Modern Reef PDFs. Drop the PDF in and TankSensei maps the rows to your tank's parameters and lets you confirm before anything saves. If your lab isn't supported yet, one tap sends us the report's text (never the PDF itself) so we can add it.
How does the HYDROS connection work?
Connect your CoralVue HYDROS account and pick which controller belongs to which tank. Its probe readings then feed the Sensei Score and your alerts automatically. TankSensei only reads from HYDROS; it never changes a setting on your controller.
Will TankSensei warn me when something goes wrong?
Yes. When a parameter leaves its range you get a push notification and an email that names the problem and what to do about it. A single reading inside your test kit's own margin of error is flagged gently rather than as an emergency, quiet hours hold non-urgent alerts overnight, and you can mute a parameter for three days with one tap.
How does the Sensei Score work?
It's a layered 0–100 score. Health is a weighted, recency-decayed score per parameter against your tank-type targets, with cycling-mode targets for tanks under 90 days. Stability is the inverse of 30-day coefficient of variation. The AI narrative explains in plain English what's actually going on and ends with one concrete next step — or "nothing to do today" if everything is steady.
Can TankSensei read my Hanna Checker or test strip?
Yes. Snap a photo of a Hanna Checker LCD, a colour strip against a reference card, or your refractometer eyepiece — Claude Vision reads the value, returns a confidence score, and lets you nudge the reading before save. It refuses to invent a reading on a blurry photo and tells you to retest.
Does my data leave the app?
Your tank data stays in our Postgres database — we don't sell it, share it, or feed it to ad networks. Photo and ICP processing happens server-side via Anthropic's Claude API, anonymised by tank id. You can export your data at any time.
What kinds of tanks does TankSensei support?
Saltwater (SPS-dominant, mixed reef, soft / LPS, FOWLR) and freshwater (high-tech planted, low-tech planted, community, African cichlid, shrimp). Each subtype has its own parameter targets, scoring profile, and cycling-mode tolerances. You can also rename, hide, or add custom parameters per tank.
Do you have an iOS or Android app?
TankSensei is a web app you install on iOS, Android and desktop. On iPhone, open it in Safari and choose Share, then Add to Home Screen; push notifications work from the installed app. Native apps are on the roadmap.
